Parents Newsletter September 2017

  • Categories: Official School Newsletter

Welcome Back

On behalf of the teachers and Board of Management we would like to welcome all our pupils back after the summer holidays.  A special warm welcome to our new Junior Infants and any new pupils who have joined us.  We hope you will be very happy in Holy Rosary Primary School.

Points to remember

  • School starts at 9.20am and ends at 2pm for Junior and Senior Infants and at 3pm for all other students. All pupils should be on time.   There is no supervision before 9.10am and pupils should not arrive before this time.
  • Children should wear full school uniform on all days except PE days when they wear the school tracksuit.
  • If a child is absent for any reason a note must be sent to the class teacher when the child returns.
  • Only in exceptional circumstances should children be collected early from school. This must be recorded at the office and may be notified to the Department of Education.
  • Please label all your child’s belongings as our “Lost & Found” box gets bigger every year!
  • No dogs allowed on the school grounds.
  • Smoking is illegal anywhere within the school grounds as it is a public building.

Healthy Eating

In Holy Rosary School we encourage children to bring a healthy lunch to school.

Sandwiches, fruit and milk are provided by the school.

In the interest of safety no glass bottles are allowed.

In line with our healthy ethos we ask children not to bring in crisps, sweets, chocolate, chocolate spread, biscuits, cereal bars, gum or fizzy drinks.

Children are allowed to sip water during the day but not juices.

Financial Contributions.

In Holy Rosary we have tried to keep our Book Bills as low as possible. As there is a shortfall in Department of Education grants we must however ask for a contribution towards art / photocopying etc. We are grateful for the many contributions which have been made already. However, we would like to remind parents that some contributions are still outstanding.  We would ask parents to pay as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulty, please come and talk to us.

Contact Details

If you have changed address or phone numbers recently please inform the school immediately.  Our ‘textaparent’ is being updated also, so if you did not receive a text informing you of the return to school date, please contact the office to update your mobile number.

Office Administration

If you require letters for Visas, Child Benefit Office etc., you must give the office at least one weeks notice.

Pupil Personal Accident forms will be handed out in the next couple of weeks.

After School Classes Autumn 2017

The Parents’ Association are delighted to announce the return of Afterschool Classes beginning Tuesday, September 26th.  Please see our website www.holyrosaryps.ie for further details.

GAA  Training

GAA training before school has now started for boys and girls from 3rd class up.  This takes place at 8.40am until 9.10am in the mornings, weather permitting.  Children must bring a change of socks, shoes and bottoms with them.

Parish News

On behalf of the parish of Holy Rosary Church, we welcome your children back to school and also the families of the new children starting this year.  Many of the children will attend school masses in our church and receive their First Holy Communion and Confirmations here also, so we invite you to actively participate in our parish.  Weekend mass times are 6pm on Saturday and 10.30am on Sunday.  During the 10.30am mass we have a Children’s Liturgy Group who take children aged 5+ to a side room and discuss the gospel message of the day in a child friendly way that they will understand, through video, arts & crafts.

There are many ways in which you and your child can together be involved in our liturgies.  Our Sunday choir, for example, always welcomes new members, of any age and ability, so your child may wish to participate in the singing.   At the same time you can equally be part of the choir should you so wish.  We also welcome the children from 3rd class and upwards as Altar Servers and a meeting for any children interested in same will be held before mass at 10am on Sunday, 17th September.  The parish runs First Holy Communion and Confirmation programmes to help prepare the children for these sacraments and we will be looking for volunteers later in the year to help with those.

For further information on parish involvement, please contact Deborah Brown in the Parish Office from 10am to 1pm on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

School Parking

Once again concerns have been raised about the way people are parking and stopping when bringing children to and from school.

These guidelines were introduced to

  1. Ensure the safety of all children
  2. Ensure that traffic continues to flow
  1. From 8am – 10am the area beside the field is set-down only. You cannot park or wait in this area.
  2. There are only a limited number of parking spaces on the school grounds, so we recommend you park on the road and walk into the school.
  3. If you do enter the carpark and cannot find a space you must exit again.
  4. You cannot double park or wait beside the set-down area or between rows of cars.
  5. You cannot park in the disabled spaces near the Church unless you have a Disabled Pass.
  6. You cannot park or enter the Staff Car Park as it involves crossing the walkway.

We look forward to your co-operation in these matters.

New Dawnings
A small return to normality,
a team,
joined together in solidarity,
to express their footballing personality!
Early mornings,cold frost warnings,
training gear adornings!
May our forwards find themselves,
in splendid
self-isolation,
to rattle the back of the net
